Paul Shambroom: Picturing Power
9" x 11.5"
Hardcover book with printed book-cloth
160 pages
Designed in collaboration with Andrew Blauvelt
Picturing Power presents Shambroom's five major series together
for the first time. The common themes and aspects of his work — neutrality,
revealing unseen locations of power (from offices to security training facilities),
negotiation of access — informed the catalog's graphic language.
Exploring neutrality, several shades of grey (both paper and ink) are used
throughout the essay section. The essays' titles are set as large warning
announcements — their edges then obscured, in reference to the relationship
between the veiled and the unveiled in Shambroom's work.
The cover image is printed on book cloth, resembling the canvas Shambroom
uses for the Security portraits.
